How to Apply

To obtain a brochure for the Practical Nursing Program, you may do one of the following:

  • Call our program to have a brochure and application mailed to you - 717-447-0394 Ext. 10
  • Email our program at rfultz@mjctcpn.org to have a brochure and application mailed to you.
  • Download the program brochure and application and mail it to the program.

APPLICATION

Steps in the Application Process (Please refer to the program brochure for the complete Application Process).

1.    BROCHURE:  Read the brochure.

2.    APPLICATION:  Complete the application form and return it to the program along with the non-refundable fee of $60 (application/entrance test/criminal background clearance fee) and an official copy of your high school transcript or official G.E.D. scores.

·    Please send an official transcript of your high school records. To obtain your transcript, contact the principal or guidance counselor of the high school from which you graduated to request a copy be sent to this school. The transcript must reflect your graduation date and be signed by a school official.  This brochure contains a transcript request form that may be used.

·    If you are not a high school graduate, it will be necessary for you to take the G.E.D. examination. If you already have the G.E.D., you will need to send a copy of your diploma and a copy of your official G.E.D. grade sheet to our school at the above address. You may obtain G.E.D. scores from:

3.     ACKNOWLEDGEMENT LETTER:  You will then receive a letter acknowledging receipt of your application.  This letter will contain information regarding the purchase of a study guide for the pre-entrance exam – HESI, information about preparing for the HESI exam and information about classes offered by the local CareerLink.

·    Pre-entrance testing is conducted as part of the application process.

 4.    PRE-ENTRANCE TESTING APPOINTMENT:  After your complete application (application, fee and transcript or GED scores) is submitted, you will receive a pre-entrance testing appointment.

·    Letters will be sent in March for testing appointments in April for the class starting in September.

·    Letters will be sent in September for testing appointments in October for the class starting in March.

 5.    PRE-ENTRANCE TESTING:  HESI – Admission Assessment Exam for Practical Nursing is required.  Applicants must pass the math, reading comprehension, and written expression portions of the examination at 75% or higher to determine potential for success in nursing school.

·    Interested persons may purchase a study guide to prepare for the exam by ordering it from the Elsevier website, from any book store (see the Entrance Exam page for links) or by checking with your local library using the ISBN #: 978-1-4160-5635-5. Information about this study guide is mailed to the applicant with the acknowledgment of application letter or check our website for more information. 

·    There is a $25 re-testing fee for the Pre-Entrance test as well as the $10 fee for the criminal background clearance.  Original test fee is paid with application fee.

 Results of pre-entrance testing will be mailed to you after the last testing date.
